Small Carafe with 2 Cups, Lilac

This Carafe is a Contemporary Reinterpretation of the Traditional ones from Jalisco, Mexico. Originally Introduced to the Region during the period of the Spanish Conquest and adapted and regionalised in combination with traditional indigenous pottery. Over the years it was modified taking references and decorations inspired by local flora and fauna.

For this reinterpretation we kept the playfully, simple, elegant and functional spherical shape and kept the decoration abstracted into two elements, a slight relief on the circumference belly of the bottle and we used intense and vibrant matte colors that not only reflect the diversity of Mexico but also a global identity with which anyone in the world can identify. 

The bottle comes with 2 glasses which are used to cover the mouth of the bottle and keep the water clean, as well as being used to drink water from the bottle.

In traditional Mexican homes, these jugs and glasses were commonly found on a wooden table at the entrance of the house, in what is called Zagúan, a type of elongated distributor that separated the street from a main patio that ventilated and illuminated the rooms and bathrooms of the house. The hallway, serving as a hall, humbly offered water to visitors thirsty due to the heat of the streets. It was very common for fruit water to be placed in these bottles, usually from trees in the same patio inside the house, orange trees, limes, guavas or any other fruit. They also used to place some leaves of aromatic plants such as mint or rosemary.

The clay walls of the traditional bottle allowed a slight humidity and once the bottle is in contact with the air the water cools naturally and constantly.

Due to the humidity of the bottle, a napkin or plate used to be placed under the bottle to avoid moisture marks on the surfaces of the wooden tables. And the jugs always had decorations of lines around the spherical body, deer, birds or local flowers.
