Castañas, Oaxacan Terracotta
Castañas (chestnuts) is a usable sculpture made of a series of cups.
The individual pieces can be rearranged to create different shapes, and can also be used as drinking cups for a coffee or mezcal.
The towers are a celebration of a natural material, a clay local to Oaxaca, which is finished in two different ways to create contrasting colours.

Every pair of cups includes 1 individual cup to use as a lid on the top, this cup can be small or large, you can decide.

Castañas is a decorative sculpture toy.
Inspired by the traditional russian Matryoshka dolls, Castañas (chestnuts) is a set of cups that, arranged vertically one above the other, creates a sculpture that, in turn, playing with balance, generates a series of beautiful forms that are also containers.
Castañas is made from clay, with the traditional technique of black clay, both colours have a super soft texture given by the polish before the fire.
Handmade in Oaxaca, a state rich in pre-hispanic pottery tradition, the Barro Negro (black clay) style has a tactile finish with a subtle shine.
The workshop takes the natural clay and cleans it by filtering it for 20 days. The clay is then smoked to create the black colour and burnished rather than glazed, by polishing the surface with a quartz crystal until it has a glossy finish with a warm glow. The pieces are then fired in underground pits or kilns, using a wood fire.
Important :
Pieces can present different colour spots, variations in sizes as part as the artisanal and handmade process.
